Terms
of use

Azadira is a research project operated by an individual member of the faculty of the University of Notre Dame, identified under Contact (“the operator”, “we”, “us”). These terms govern your use of azadira.com and the software served from it.
By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Last updated: 14 October 2026 · see also the Privacy Policy

Applicability

This agreement is between the operator and you, the user. It covers azadira.com, the pages and software served from it, and the optional relay server that supports cloud accounts, multi-player boards, contests and learning-management-system integration.

It applies whether or not you create an account, including when you simply open a problem and solve it on your own device.

Who operates Azadira, and Notre Dame’s role

Azadira is the personal research project of a member of the faculty of the University of Notre Dame, named under Contact below. The operator registered the domain, arranges the hosting personally, and runs the site. No University systems or accounts are involved in running it.

The University of Notre Dame owns the copyright in Azadira’s software and content, which is why the notice in the footer appears. The University does not operate the site, is not a party to this agreement, and makes no representation or warranty about it. Nothing here creates any obligation of the University to you.

Questions about the service go to the operator. Questions about the ownership of the software or about licensing it go to the Notre Dame IDEA Center.

Who may use Azadira

Anyone may use the site without an account. Progress then stays in your own browser and nothing identifying you is sent to us.

Cloud accounts are for people aged 13 or over. If you are under 13, please use Azadira without an account, or through a school that has arranged for your use of it. Accounts are created only through Sign in with Google; there is no password to choose or forget.

We may suspend or close an account at any time, including for breach of these terms or at your own request. You can delete your own account and its stored progress at any time from the player menu.

Acceptable use

Use Azadira lawfully, and in a way that does not harm other users or the service. In particular, do not:

  • attempt to gain access to accounts, boards, contests or administrative areas that are not yours;
  • disrupt the service, or place automated load on it beyond ordinary personal use;
  • systematically download, scrape or republish the problem bank, the lessons or the reference material (see below);
  • use the site to store or transmit unlawful material, or to harass anyone.

Personal, educational and classroom use is free and welcome. Commercial use of the content, which the University of Notre Dame owns, or of the service, requires written permission; see Contact.

Fair play and academic integrity

Azadira grades your work in your own browser. That design trusts you, and the trust is part of the exercise.

Do not interfere with grading, report results you did not earn, or circumvent the checks that verify a solve. In multi-player boards and contests, the rules of the run — the shared clock, the absence of hints, and the rule that leaving the window ends a run — apply to everyone equally. The person hosting a board may grant accommodations, such as extra time or exemption from the focus rule, and those are visible only to the host and to the player concerned.

Where an instructor assigns Azadira for credit, their course policy on collaboration and on the use of automated assistance governs. Nothing here overrides it.

The code you write

You own the code you write. Neither the operator nor the University of Notre Dame claims ownership of your solutions.

In ordinary single-player use your code is never transmitted to us: it runs and is graded inside your browser. Your code does leave your device in three cases, and only those:

  • Multi-player boards and contests — a solve is sent to the relay so the standings can be kept and so the host’s browser can re-verify it. Other participants in that board may see it.
  • Reporting a problem — if you use “Report a problem”, the code in your editor is attached so the fault can be reproduced.
  • Cloud accounts — your saved progress is stored on our server so it can follow you between devices. Drafts and solutions you keep locally are part of that progress document.

For those cases you grant the operator a non-exclusive licence to store, display and process that code for the purpose of operating Azadira, maintaining it, and improving the problems. We do not claim ownership of your code and do not claim the right to relicense it to anyone else.

Problems, lessons and software

The problems, lessons, reference solutions, images and software that make up Azadira are the copyright of the University of Notre Dame, and are protected by copyright law. The problem bank is original work.

You may use them for your own learning and teaching, including in a classroom. You may not redistribute the problem bank or the lessons as a dataset or as a competing collection, and you may not use them to train a model for redistribution, without written permission.

Azadira depends on third-party open-source software, which remains under its own licences — among them Pyodide and CPython, CodeMirror, mypy and Jedi. Those licences are not affected by these terms.

Some or all of Azadira may in future be released under an open-source licence. If and when that happens, that licence governs the released material, and these terms continue to govern the hosted service at azadira.com.

Use through a school or university

Where an institution connects Azadira to its learning management system through LTI, that institution decides who is enrolled and what is assigned. Azadira receives an identifier for you from the platform, your name as the platform supplies it, your role in the course, and the course title; it returns your score for the assignment.

In that setting the operator acts on behalf of your institution with respect to your course records, and your institution’s own policies — including its obligations under FERPA or comparable law — apply to them. Questions about those records should go to your institution first.

Security and vulnerability reports

Do not test the security of the service in a way that risks other users’ data or the availability of the site. If you find a vulnerability, please report it privately to the address under Contact and give us a reasonable opportunity to fix it before disclosing it. Good-faith reports are welcome and we will not pursue reporters who follow this.

No warranty

Azadira is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. This applies both to the operator and to the University of Notre Dame.

We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, that defects will be corrected, or that the material on it is free of harmful components. Your progress is kept in your browser; you are responsible for exporting a copy if it matters to you. Grades, ratings and scores are provided for educational purposes and may be recalculated or corrected.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither the operator nor the University of Notre Dame, nor their respective trustees, officers, employees or agents, will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill or academic standing, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use Azadira, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, even if advised of the possibility.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any suit or proceeding arising out of them shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in St. Joseph County, Indiana, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms. If a change is significant we will say so on the site.
